So yesterday I freaked out when I had an acute upper chest pain that was worse when I breathed in and worse still when I lay down. I immediately made an emergency appointment with my internist, who ran an EKG and immediately sent me to a cardiologist who immediately called an ambulance and off I went to the nearest hospital. Many tests later it turned out it wasn’t a heart attack at all but pericarditis Nitro Glycerine tabs didn’t relieve the pain; nor did a morphine drip. What did work almost instantaneously was Ibuprofen. So now I’m home with a healthy heart (I think) and a new-found respect for a disease I never heard of before - pericarditis Comments
