Be adamant about the seriousness of your symptoms and treatment

My husband recently died at home alone, 4 days after calling 911 about pain radiating from his left arm to his chest with a uncomfortable pressure to his chest along with shortness of breath. On the initial day of his chest pain and shortness of breath, my daughter was home to call 911.

Portable x-ray indicated no heart problems from emergency portable EKG and he drove himself to the chest pain center where they kept him and monitored him for about 6 hours. No abnormal chest x-ray, no abnormal enzymes, no abnormal EKG However, he was sweating, continued to have chest pressure, and difficulty taking breaths. He was released that same afternoon with Pepcid prescription after telling hospital personnel he was still experiencing chest discomfort and difficulty breathing. He was weak and uncomfortable over the weekend. Went to work sick on Monday and Tuesday. I got a call at work on Wednesday from his boss saying he didn’t show up for work and hadn’t called and I immediately knew something was wrong. His boss went to the house and called me back saying I needed to come home. My husband was discovered on the bedroom floor with a towel as if he has been taking a shower, felt bad and headed toward the bed. He died on the floor alone. He also experienced intense back pain. 56 years old.

In Georgia, physicians are only required to give “slight” care because of a law past last year in regards to malpractice suits. I was told he got very good care. Who knows. He is gone. My two children are without a father, and me without a wonderful husband.
