My husband has aortic stenosis

My husband is 56 and a union sheet metal worker so he does labor intensive work. He is totally asymptomatic. He is strong and healthy. He has a congenital bicuspid valve, got very ill as a teenager (they think rheumatic fever) and had radiation therapy for cancer in his 30s. HIs doctor has been monitoring him for quite a few years now along with a cardiologist

He just had another ultrasound and his reading was a .9 cm valve opening which puts him in the moderate to severe category. My husband is a very stoic person and does not show emotion. Last night he had tears in his eyes and became very quiet. I think the inevitability of future surgery finally hit him. Any suggestions to allay his fears?
