Aortic Valve Replacement

In February of 2004, at the age of 53, I had my Aortic Valve replaced. My original valve was neither a tricuspid or bicuspid, but a unicuspid valve. That is it had only one leaftlet. I received a St Jude Medical mechanical valve, for which I am extremely grateful. I have never been in better health, and am now a qualified and registered Personal Trainer. I can run 10-15 kilometres without breaking into a serious sweat, and look forward to competing in a marathon at some stage in the near future. I don’t consider taking Coumadin to be any sort of imposition, and look forward to a long and healthy life, something I never had before the operation.
