To quickly access health information from your website's browser, download post angioplasty cardiac arrest My husband’s brother (age 57) had his second balloon angioplasty (catheter inserted through his arm) a few days ago. His first was 3 weeks ago. The procedure was done in the am and at 11:00 pm, he had a cardiac arrest in his hospital room. Luckily, there was another patient sharing his room who called the nurse. His heart had stopped for about 2 minutes and he spent 2 days in intensive care. He is now conscious and the doctors don’t believe that he had any brain damage. I don’t understand why he wasn’t connected to any heart monitor during his post-operative period. This procedure was done in Italy. I am wondering if this is done any differently in the US?
